Horse Behaviour and Training
We all dream of having that perfectly behaved horse that we can enjoy, have fun with and hack out with friends or alone. But when our horses are spooky, escalate quickly into fight (aggression) or flight (bolting), or buck/rear for reasons we cannot understand, it becomes a very dangerous hobby.
Whether you want help with your horse on the ground or ridden, trailer or lorry loading, or need some help making vet visits or husbandry procedures such as clipping less stressful and dangerous, have a look at the behaviour support service below or book a free discovery call if you are not sure if its the right fit for you and your horse or pony.
Horse Training
Teach your horse the basics with daily handling procedures through to backing youngsters or restarting anxious or worried horses with positive reinforcement training. Coaching lessons are 1 hour where you learn how to train your horse yourself, or if you are short of time I can do it for you in 30 min sessions .
Training can include:
Daily handling (catching, standing tied, lifting feet, grooming, leading, introducing equipment etc)
Health care procedures (hosing legs, injection training, worming, preparing for the farrier, applying eye ointment, fly spray, wound care etc)
De-spooking for life
Trailer loading and travelling
Gymnastic groundwork (short reining, long reining, lunging, obstacles and jumping)
Getting started under saddle (backing and re-backing)

Behaviour Consultation
If your horse is displaying dangerous or difficult behaviour and you need more than a training session, it is better value to book a behaviour consultation where we take a history, assess the situation, liaise with your vet and/or other equine professionals and develop a full behaviour plan for you. This suits horses who are struggling with aggression, separation stress, bolting, bucking, rearing, repetitive behaviours and anything else that is more likely to indicate distress / emotional problems (fear, frustration, panic, general anxiety).
A behaviour consultation is a double slot and costs £120.
“Gillian explains why the behaviour is happening and explains everything in an easy to understand way. Training plans are broken down into achievable steps. Other people kept telling me my pony was dangerous and to get rid of him, however I am glad we went to Gillian as without her expertise our pony would not be the happy confident little man he is today. Thank you Gillian, I will never forget what you have done for us.”
